The videos are now available for the sessions of the 2010 gathering of a group of excellent pastors from various denominations coming together for the sake of the Gospel. That good news of God that traverses denominational boundaries. These guys are uncompromising on the essentials and gracious about their differences. And they all, for the most part, have very good and solid teaching.
Southern Baptist Seminary is addressing some of the shortcomings of the age-based ministry approach that has had some serious short-falls in equipping parents to minister effectively to their children. They have a portion of their Southern seminary website that is dedicated to family ministries. Here’s a short video that explains why they developed and are moving towards what they call a Family Equipping Model. I have just begun to digest all the various information on this topic.
As a parent of two children, I’m always interested to see the routine of fellow parents. Here’s one that showed up on the Resurgence blog: Justin Hyde, How I Pastor My Family. It has some resemblance to what we do at our house, but after reading it, I realized that I still have some things to work on. This article is particularly relevant to fathers; but I recommend every mother and father to read this and reflect on how you can improve your time with your children.
Francis Schaeffer is fascinating to listen to. His video series “How then Shall We Live” takes the viewer on walk through history, reflecting on the meeting of culture and Christianity. Reflecting on culture in light of the truths we find in Scripture is a worthwhile endeavor, helping us to discern between truth and error. Each generation experiences exciting ideas that bubble up out of our culture. Men like Francis Schaeffer take the time to reflect on these ideas, where they came from, where they are going. His online library is now open for all to explore. I haven’t taken a look yet, but I’m certain there is probably something for everyone in there.
With the variety of religions, there are a variety of documents, teaching various versions of spirituality and meaning for life. They all have views of God and claim to teach the truth about reality. A person who takes an intellectually honest look at the various teachings is forced to conclude that either many of them are wrong and only one is right, or all of them are right to some extent. The problem with the later option, is that you would have to admit that God let’s his revelation of truth become corrupted at the hands of men. I would like briefly provide some reasons why the Bible is God’s communication to us, and why it is reasonable to believe that it is uncorrupted by the hands of man.
